Aumakua Kava Lounge

About Us

Adesh is the founder of the high end Kava Lounge on the north shore of Maui in the surf town of Paia. The Kava bar concept is based around 30’s Tiki era Bars utilizing old recipes and remaking them with Kava instead of rum. With influences from Don the Beachcomber, Beach Bum Berry, and Trader Vic Adesh has been able to craft quite an eclectic drink menu. The nautical Island chic decor, plus the combination of tropical island flavors, using high quality ingredients and fantastic glassware, the effect is absolutely a one of kind experience. Beyond the decor there is something deeper and authentic that comes through. The strong reverence for the cultural use and spiritual potency of the Kava is just as much of the experience here.

Adesh opened two Kava Bars in San Diego and has been in the kava bar industry for over 7 years. There is something profoundly healing and magical about the Kava plant. Each bar becomes a spiritual vortex where the spirit of the plant can guide teach and heal each individual as they surrender to feeling relaxed, content, and begin building meaningful connections with the kava Ohana or tribe.

Adesh is a mystic and comes from a family line of gifted intuitives. She has received many messages or communications from different animals over the years as well as having prophetic dreams.

The story of how the bar was named is an interesting one. Adesh was meditating deeply at the pine forrest in Olinda. When she finished the meditation it came to her to name the bar ‘aumakua. At first she felt unsure and timid about using a name that holds such a strong cultural meaning for the Hawaiian people and was concerned that it might not be well received. As she was driving out and contemplating all this two owls flew over head and with them she felt a sense of affirmation. That she was being guided and needed to let go of fear and doubt and trust. Upon returning home she looked up ‘aumakua just to make absolutely certain her understanding was correct and to deepen her knowledge. There she found the third sign. Upon reading the article she pulled up, at the very end, it stated the the highest offering one can give to show reverence and gratitude for ones ‘aumakua is Kava (awa in Hawaii)! It was after the name was solidified that she felt inspired to open this bar as a conduit or way of sharing the magic that is all around us and how the unseen ancestors, guides, angels are communicating with us all the time. It was through deepening her knowledge of the aumakua that she realized where she was getting her guidance from all along.
